Leather Hair Barrettes or Hair Slides

I first started making these lightweight leather hair accessories in the 1970s (we used to call them leather hair slides back in the day). They are great for hot summer days when long hair is far too warm to wear down over your shoulders. They also work well in more formal situations when you need to wear your hair up.

They are still popular today because they are both practical and robust. They always look great and they are inexpensive so you can afford to have two or three barrettes in different colours to match your clothes. Always pack a couple for holidays!

Let me share a trick for keeping a hair barrette in place, even if your hair is very fine.

Just use an elastic hair band to tie your hair back and then hold the barrette in place by pushing the stick through the hair nearest your head (behind the band). The barrette will cover the ugly old elastic band and you will look amazing!
